About rAInbow

rAInbow is a friendly, non-judgmental chatbot that helps people identify signs of abuse and provides relevant resources to help them. Since we launched rAInbow in November 2018, we’ve had over 17,800 users in South Africa, who have exchanged around 840,000 messages with the bot. Our mission is for everyone who is at risk to get the help they need right when they need it.

Unlike most of the traditional helplines in the country, our intervention is available 24/7, so people can reach out to get information at any time of the day. They can do this at their own pace, whenever they feel safe or need it.

rAInbow was built with the help of survivors and with the highest standards of privacy and security in order to keep them safe. Users chat to rAInbow on Facebook Messenger, so it feels and looks like talking to a friend. Picking up the phone or seeking help in person is an issue in itself, since it requires money, safety, time, and courage. With rAInbow woman can ease into getting support and build their confidence to take the next step.

Through advanced AI-powered technology, rAInbow guides users through activities that help them recognize and understand the signs and types of abuse. With human-centered design at its core, rAInbow is a solution that victims of domestic violence actually want and need.

Job overview

AI for Good is seeking a consultant with a strong product background and a commitment to social change. You will be responsible for end-to-end delivery, roadmap, strategy, partnership and project management of rAInbow globally. You don’t necessarily need to have experience working with domestic abuse/violence, but an understanding of the topic is highly desirable.

You will be an integral part of rAInbow, managing the development of the product, driving our roadmap delivering, working closely with our partners and donors, and setting strategic direction for the product to scale.

You should be used to working with and/or overseeing multidisciplinary projects, and serving as an SCA representative with clients and stakeholders, including mid to senior leadership of major foundations, local authorities, NGOs, and/or corporations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Development - 40%

• End-to-end product roadmap delivery
• Developing new content for the chatbot
• Working alongside the technical team to train and test the chatbot

Partnership Management – 30%

• Managing relationship with donors
• Managing current partnerships in South Africa
• Developing pipeline for partnership expansion and sustainability in South Africa

Product Promotion and Communications – 10%

• Running social media campaigns
• Supporting media engagement in South Africa
• Providing product updates to key stakeholders

Strategic Direction – 20%

• Setting business development targets
• Developing proposals for funding and writing bids
• Developing our Business Model with corporates
• Developing a strategy to launch rAInbow in the UK
